Help place a flag on every Fort Snelling headstone for the first time in 30 years

.

KARE 11 and Flags for Fort Snelling partner to honor vets this Memorial Day

Help place a flag on every headstone at Fort Snelling National Cemetery for the first time in 30 years.

As Minnesota’s front door for generosity, we are always excited to see all of the support on GiveMN.org from Minnesotans to power the good being done by nonprofits and schools in every corner of our state.

As we look forward to Memorial Day next weekend, we are especially thrilled to highlight a major project and fundraiser taking place in the Twin Cities. Flags for Fort Snelling, KARE 11, Mall of America, and RBCU have teamed up to ensure a flag will be placed on every grave at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, a feat which hasn’t been accomplished in more than 30 years.

Help purchase flags for Memorial Day 2018

Below, learn more from KARE 11 on how you can get involved by helping to purchase flags or volunteering to help place the flags next weekend.

Support our local veterans by helping purchase flags during the KARE 11 Flags for Fort Snelling Giving Day

Today, KARE 11 will host a special Flags for Fort Snelling Giving Day. It will be a day spent sharing stories of local veterans and our local heroes.  Your support will ensure every Veteran is honored, both this year and for years to come.
Here’s how you can help:

Help us purchase flags for each headstone for our partner nonprofit Flags for Fort Snelling. Your donation, large or small, will ensure every hero that has been laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be remembered this Memorial Day and lay the groundwork to make this a yearly tradition.

Donate to help purchase flags for every Fort Snelling headstone

Volunteer to help place flags over Memorial Day weekend and provide photos to requesting families who are unable to visit in person for Memorial Day. Volunteer registration is available on the Flags for Fort Snelling website.

Volunteer to help place flags over Memorial Day weekend

We only have 11 more days until Memorial Day weekend and we need your support to make this Memorial Day, and those to come, special for every Veteran.

Twin Cities PBS – TPT and Minnesota Remembers Vietnam are hosting The Wall That Heals Thursday, June 21 through Sunday, June 24 on the grounds of the State Capitol in St. Paul, MN. This brand-new version of the Wall is a traveling, 3/4–scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Wall is free and open to the public and will be open 24 hours a day, beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 and ending in the mid-afternoon on Sunday, June 24. In addition to the Wall itself, there will be programming throughout the weekend. (For a list of our scheduled events, visit MNVietnam.org/wall)

PBYR Meets with Wayzata High School Students to Discuss Recent Partnering

Wayzata

Plymouth Beyond Yellow Ribbon further explored  the PBYR mission with Brenda Badger’s Y.E.S. students on December 7, 2017.  This was a follow-up to the prior project and partnering with PBYR in November, 2017 to send treats to deployed MN soldiers.  In the presentation, the students asked many good questions about PBYR.  We addressed many reasons why people  volunteer with  non-profit organizations, such as agreeing with the  mission and to demonstrate support, personal skill development, leadership training and to contribute to a healthy sense of community. Also, the many advantages for Minnesota to have a large network of BYR cities was reviewed in detail as this effort has assisted many people and decreased the military suicide rates over the past several years.

Strategies and reasons for students to connect with PBYR and/or other non-profits was reviewed in detail.  The students seemed to resonate with the PBYR mission and history. Hopefully, they will desire to partner again with PBYR in 2018!  They were reminded that their knowledge and skill with social media could be used effectively by many non-profit organizations, especially as community outreach efforts can take many creative forms in the current digital age.
